He's 34 years old, young, charismatic and a lawyer. He came to Australia at the age of 15 as a refugee, but 15 years later, Hoi Trinh finds himself helping the very same people his parents once were - the boat people.

More than 1500 Vietnamese boat people have been left stateless in the Philippines after the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, the UNHCR, halted its refugee programs in South East Asia in 1996. Many had risked their lives on flimsy boats to escape Vietnam at the end of the war in April 1975, seeking political asylum in countries like Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and Philippines. Up until March 1989, those who landed in ports in these countries were automatically granted refugee status. Those who arrived later were forced to go through a screening process and many were repatriated to Vietnam. Today, the last of the Vietnamese boat people remains in the Philippines, and have been living in camps and detention centres there since 1989. Hoi Trinh describes his working lives in these camps.

wow, I absolutely love her dress. and her hair...i'm thinking about that style now for my wedding....sometime in the fuuuuuuuuuture. it's so nice, simple and very elegant looking.

was Truc Lam one of her bridesmaids? I couldn't tell from the pix.
